#99 ARBOREAL ADIEU

Once again, I visit with reverence the 300-year-old great grandfather (grandmother?) English Elm at the west end of the Park.

ME: “Once more I am impressed. With girth so round,                three of me could not link arms around you.

And though you wear your wrinkles well. I can see you are        an amputee."

TREE: “Ah well, I had to lose some limbs to save my trunk.

You can’t expect all your children to around forever.”
